CHINHOYI – CHRISWELL (29) and Shingai (21) Chikuse jointly scooped the best goalkeeper
of the year award at the Chinhoyi Stars FC Awards held in the town recently.
The two siblings, made a number of key saves throughout the season to ensure that Chinhoyi
Stars survived relegation in the 18-club Northern Region Ruyamuro Division One League.
Chriswell had an incredible 2022 season, starting in the first line during the first round of the
season, but was out of play due to a goalkeeping injury. That is when his young brother took
over.
The elder brother was back from injury but he could not get back his post as Shingai maintained
his goal guarding form up to the end of the season.
Shingai is a high school graduate, who joined the club when his elder brother had been a
goalkeeper for more than seven years.
Brandon Chidzomba won the most disciplined Player of the Year award. He has continued that
form and progress this season, establishing himself firmly as the team’s number one in terms of
being orderly.
Team captain Marshall Mpuna beat fellow team mates winning the main award which is the
Player of the Year Award.
He is the only player to have played every minute of every game for Chinhoyi Stars last season,
and his consistency has been impressive for such an energetic captain.
Kudzanai Mkumbiri vice-captain, ended up being a clear winner of the golden boot award, and
was awarded for being the top goal scorer.
Head Coach Munyaradzi Charuza and Assistant Coach Alec Kambambaira were also awarded
after a brilliant eight months with Chinhoyi Stars during which they managed to surpass the team
target, which was to survive relegation.

Zimbabwe soccer legend, Andrew Kadengu, applauded Chinhoyi Stars for setting a new
Chinhoyi soccer fraternity record of surviving relegation in Division One football.
