Murehwa man loses car, cash to hikers
MARONDERA-A Murewa man was robbed of his vehicle by some people whom he had
offered transport in Harare going to Murewa recently.
Police in Mashonaland East has confirmed the incident saying investigations are underway to
account for the suspects.
The provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi said on January 12 this
year at around 10pm, Gift Mapanguri (40) of Mapato location in Murewa who was driving a
Honda Fit vehicle picked up seven passengers at Total Service Station along Samora Machel
Avenue in Harare. who allegedly later robbed him of his Honda Fit vehicle and $US60 cash
after attacking him with a knife.
Mupanguri arrived at Zinzombe shop at Murewa centre at around 11:30pm before parking his
vehicle anticipating that the three passengers would disembark as the other four had done so
along the way.
However, one of the three suspects requested Mupanguri to accompany them to Njedza area
under Chief Mangwende, but seeing that it was already late he refused.
While they were negotiating, one of the suspects who was at the back seat disembarked from
the car pretending to be looking for alternative transport.
The third one who was also at the back seat then produced a knife and threatened to harm
Mupanguri if he resisted before stabbing him once on the nose.
They then pushed him out of the car after robbing him of $US60 and a mobile phone and off
with his car.
Mupanguri with the assistance of a well-wisher made follow ups of his car for about 10km
which had driven towards Mutawatawa, but they could not locate it.
They then returned to Murewa centre where they made a police report.
The yet to be covered property including the car was worth $US5 570 and ZRP Murewa
detectives are making investigations.
