Hwange colliery stadium cleared.
It is good news for Hwange football lovers and followers of the Chipangano team after their home
ground and fortress, the Colliery Stadium was finally given the green light to host teams after
undergoing several renovations.
Zifa spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed the good news this week, much the delight of local team
Hwange FC and its supporters. The inspections were done last week and they have been given a green
light to play host to premiership teams.
.“The Colliery Stadium has gone through massive development and have been cleared to host Premier
Soccer League matches,” Gwesela said.
This was good news for fan Luckmore Filo as he said he can once again watch his favourite team play at
home instead of travelling to other towns for home matches. He blamed the team’s administrators for
taking their time to fix the ground which has resulted in Hwange’s poor performance to date.
Club Manager Khumbulani Mbano earlier in the season alluded that preliminary inspections were done
and that the club was to make some improvements on certain areas like the dressing rooms, doping
room and bucket seats so as to meet the standard required by CAF.
The major concern was the construction of new dressing rooms and structures such as doping rooms,
female referee’s dressing rooms and bucket seats installations.
However, the country’s Caf trained stadium experts are still waiting to be invited for re-inspection of
Sakubva Stadium in Mutare, ZPC Kariba’s home ground Nyamhunga, Greenfuel’s Chisumbanje home as
well as Simba Bhora’s Shamva which is going through a facelift.
Sakubva is the official home of Manica Diamonds who have been using Gibbo Stadium in Triangle
alongside Greenfuel for their home encounters. Black Rhinos who used to share Vengere Stadium in
Rusape with Greenfuel are now using the National Sports Stadium. ZPC Kariba also use the National
Sports Stadium which also services Caps United, Dynamos, Simba Bhora and Yadah.
