Six perish, seven injured in Kwekwe weekend head-on collision

Kwekwe (New Ziana) –Six people died while seven others were injured when two vehicles collided head-on at the 15 km peg along the Kwekwe-Gokwe road on Sunday evening.

The drivers of the two vehicles –a Nissan NP300 and a Honda Fit- and two other people died on the spot, while the other two died on admission at Kwekwe General Hospital.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the fatal road accident and urged motorists to be patient on the road, as well as to adhere to road rules and regulations.

Ass Comm Nyathi identified three of the deceased as Edward Mutimbu (40) of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Headquarters, Tafadzwa Chokera (24) of Zhombe Business Centre and Anna Muzeziwa (42) of Zhombe Mission Hospital.

The other three deceased are yet to be identified by their next of kin.

The Nissan NP300 with three passengers on board, was travelling towards Kwekwe and it collided head on with the Honda Fit, which was travelling in the opposite direction with eight passengers on board.

Meanwhile, police in Midlands province are investigating another road traffic accident in which seven people escaped with varying injuries when the vehicles they were travelling in collided head on along the Harare–Bulawayo road near Quick Stop Service Station in Kwekwe on Saturday evening.
