Gweru trio murders in-law

Gweru (New Ziana) – A 31-year-old man from Ruby, on the outskirts of Gweru, the Midlands province, died on Sunday after he was fatally assaulted by his in-laws following a misunderstanding while drinking beer at a tuckshop.

A passer-by later found the deceased Proud Ndhlovu lying in a pool of blood and made a police report.

Three suspects Zamani Ndhlovu (40), Mehluli Ndhlovu (36), and Mpilwenzima Ndhlovu (26) all of Ruby in Gweru have since been arrested and are assisting police with investigations.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said on June 4 around 9 PM, Proud was drinking beer with his three in-laws at the tuckshop.

It is alleged that a misunderstanding arose between Proud and one of the in-laws.

The three teamed up, followed Proud on his way home and allegedly assaulted him using fists and concrete bricks all over his body.

“One of the three produced a knife and stabbed the victim several times before they fled from the scene,” said Insp. Mahoko.

On the same day at about 11 pm, a man who was passing by discovered Proud’s body and made a report to the police.

“Police investigations led to the arrest of all three suspects who are now in custody as investigations continue,” Insp. Mahoko said.

A homemade knife and concrete bricks used to allegedly commit the crime were recovered at the scene.
