Enraged Chinamhora lover stabs two to death over a woman
Harare (New Ziana) –A man from Chinamhora in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East province is appearing in the High Court on charges of stabbing to death with a broken bottle, two men after one of them allegedly fondled his partner’s breasts in a bottle store.
Terence Janguma appeared before Justice Rogers Manyangadze who is sitting with assessors Remigius Jemwa and Eneas Barwa, and pleaded not guilty to the double murder of Allen Mugova and Tafadzwa Muponda on June 27 last year.
Janguma, who was represented by Claudious Macheka of Nyamundanda and Mutimudye, said he acted in self-defence as Mugova and Muponda had pinned him down while pummeling him all over the body.
For the State, Terence Mukuze told the court that on the fateful day around 2:30 AM the two deceased men were playing music inside Garanehama Bottle Store when Janguma and his partner, Memory Zacharia and her sister, Sibongile Zacharia entered and sat on a bench while drinking beer.
Mugova played some music which sent Memory to the dance floor where he joined her and later fondled her breasts.
Memory was not amused and pushed Mugova against the counter and he retaliated, sending her tumbling onto Janguma’s legs. Sibongile intervened and tried to calm the two down to no avail.
Janguma then reprimanded Mugova for his action and invited him outside to resolve the misunderstanding amicably but the latter continued accusing Memory of having lied to him that she was not married.
This infuriated Janguma who smashed the beer bottle that he was holding and stabbed Mugova with a piece of it once in the abdomen and Muponda once in the chest.
Mugova ran away for about 450 metres before collapsing and succumbing to his injuries while Muponda went to the back of the bottle store where he also collapsed and died.
Janguma fled to Macheke where he was arrested two days later.
Postmortem results showed that Mugova died as a result of the stab wound on the abdominal region, hermo peritoneum and laceration of the liver while Muponda suffered cardiac tamponade, lacerated left auricle and a stab wound in the thorax.
The trial continues on Tuesday.
