ZANU-PF wins three seats in Mat South
Gwanda (New Ziana) – The ruling ZANU-PF party has won three local government seats uncontested in the upcoming general elections in Matabeleland South Province, officials said on Thursday.
They said at the close of registration of candidates for the August 23 elections on Wednesday, ZANU-PF was unopposed in three wards.
The country will hold combined presidential, parliamentary and local government elections to choose new representatives for the next five years.
Two of the wards won by ZANU-PF in Matabeleland South are in Gwanda urban, and one in Gwanda rural, which officials said showed strong support for the party across the entire province.
The party’s victory in Matabeleland South comes on the heels of an even bigger success in the Midlands Province where ZANU-PF garnered more than 20 local government seats unopposed.
