FOUR artisanal miners are feared dead at Ran Mine, Bindura, after a shaft they
were working in collapsed and trapped them on Thursday last week, June 22.
Police spokesperson, Inspector Milton Mundembe, said security officers at Ran Mine
told them that on June 22 around 4pm they saw an artisanal miner running away
from an area known as Gwindingwi within the mine complex.
On checking the site, Noel Gotora, one of the security officers, said he saw two men
standing next to a shaft alleging that it had collapsed and trapped at least four men.
On the same date, the security officers notified ZRP’s Minerals, Flora and Fauna
Unit about the accident. The police officers visited the site but could not act.
According to artisanal miners at the site, by Friday, the miners were still to be located
and retrieved.
