KWEKWE — Seasoned gaffer Rutherford Matondo returned home last week to take charge of
Ruvimbo Funeral ZIFA Central Region Soccer League outfit, ZPC Munyati.
Matondo left his assistant coach job at Gweru-based TelOne to take over from his successor and
former ZPC Kariba coach Godfrey Tamirepi, who was shown the exit door due to a spate of poor
results.
The power utility outfit is targeting to win the league title this season and be part of the elite football
fratenity in the country.
ZPC Munyati chairperson Leonard Godhidhi confirmed the new developments on the technical
bench.
We changed coaches, we now have a new coach. It was an issue of results. The contract was
performance based, guaranteed with results, he said.
There was however, nothing to celebrate for ZPC Munyati fans on Matondos return as his charges
lost 1-0 to Kwekwe United at Zisco Club in his first game in charge.
Matondo confirmed his return at ZPC Munyati but was not happy with the players discipline.
It is my first game at the helm of ZPC Munyati, I only had two days to train and prepare the team. I
wanted to check how they play tactically, technically, physiologically and I discovered a lot which we
need to improve going forward. I think we need to bring in some additions in attack and midfield
positions, said Matondo.
Matondo left ZPC Munyati to join TelOne just before the 2021/22 season kicked off. He is the man
credited with ZPC Munyatis spirited challenge and top four finish in the CRL.
ZPC Munyati is now fifth on the log table after 10 games with four wins, three draws and three
defeats.
The power utility outfit is on the road again this weekend for a tough assignment against former PSL
side Chapungu FC at Ascot Stadium in Gweru.
