ZVISHAVANE – Two men died in a head on collision at the 116km peg along Gweru-Zvishavane Road
on Sunday.
Midlands police said Peter Zvimire of Beitbridge was driving a Toyota Wish towards Gweru with four
passengers.
On reaching the 116km peg, he allegedly lost control of the car and encroached to the right lane
resulting in a head on collision with a Honda Fit driven by Edson Verengai of Siboza in Zvishavane
and who also had four passengers.
Due to the crash, Verengai’s vehicle veered off the road to the left, overturned once and landed on
its roof.
Verengai and another passenger who was in the front seat died on the spot and the other three
passengers escaped with varying injuries.
Zvimire’s Toyota also veered off the road to the left, overturned once and landed on its wheels
about 42 metres from the point of impact.
He and two other passengers sustained injuries while two others escaped unhurt.
Police urged motorists to observe road rules and travel at a safe speed in line with the prevailing
road conditions and circumstances.
