GWERU – Zimbabwe will not permit devious election observers who have ulterior motives.
Speaking during the Miners for Economic Development (Miners4ED) convention and interaction in
Gweru on Wednesday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said there were observers that have
already come up with their own results ahead of the August 23 general elections.
“We will not allow those who want to observe but already have their results. To hell with them,” he
said.
The President guaranteed a free, transparent and fair poll saying they will be democratic and those
who want to sincerely observe them to come and do so.
President Mnangagwa said there are some people who wish for the country’s elections to be violent
and move around with that narrative.
He said Zimbabweans fought for the democracy that is currently prevailing in the country.
“We are a peaceful, united and democratic country. The most democratic country in the world. No
single foreign country can teach us democracy because we fought for it and we can entrench it,”
President Mnangagwa.
The President applauded the unity exhibited by small scale miners under the Miners 4ED banner and
urged them to mobilise, recruit and vote for Zanu PF.
“You should vote for the Zanu PF Presidential candidate, the Member of Parliament and councillor,”
he said.
A miners 4ED representative said they shared the same vision with the Second Republic of attaining
a middle-income economy by 2030 therefore promising to mobilise voters for Zanu PF.
Zanu PF national political commissar Dr Mike Bimha said the Miners4ED, like many other affiliates
aligned to the ruling party, vowed to work towards achieving the five million votes for the President
and the ruling party.
Midlands Province Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Senator Larry Mavima, who
is also Zanu PF provincial chairperson, said they are assured of victory as they had mobilised
supporters to register during the voter registration exercise.
