Five people injured in three road accidents
KWEKWE — Five people escaped with injuries in three separate road accidents which occurred in the
Midlands province last week.
Two drivers and a passenger are battling for their lives at Kwekwe General Hospital after sustaining
serious injuries when their Honda Fit vehicles were involved in road accidents.
Midlands Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed
the three separate accidents.
In the first incident which occurred in Kwekwe on June 20, it is alleged that, a Honda Fit vehicle was
travelling along Kwekwe-Mvuma Road with one passenger on board. On approaching the 35km peg,
it veered off the road and overturned.
”The driver dislocated his right shoulder and the passenger sustained back injuries. They are both
admitted at Kwekwe hospital in serious conditions,” he said.
In the second incident, a 25-year-old woman is battling for her life at Kwekwe General Hospital after
she was involved in a serious road accident along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
The woman was driving a Honda Fit and upon approaching the 214km peg, she allegedly encroached
onto the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision with a Toyota Dutro Lorry.
She sustained serious head injuries and is admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.
In the third incident, two women escaped with minor injuries after they were involved in an accident
along the Gokwe-Siabuwa road on June 21.
It is alleged that the driver, of Cold Comfort in Harare, was driving a Nissan UD90 towards Gokwe
with two passengers on board. Upon reaching the 20km peg, the vehicle failed to climb an uprising
slope and rolled backwards.
The lorry veered off the road and landed on its right-side. Two women passengers were injured and
were ferried to Gokwe South District Hospital where they are admitted. They are both in stable
condition.
“We appeal to members of the public to obey road rules and exercise maximum caution to avoid
road carnage,” said Insp. Mahoko.
