A juvenile first offender, who accidentally stabbed his friend twice, was jailed for five
years by the Beitbridge Regional Court, which considered circumstances under
which the crime was convicted.
Eighteen-year-old Joseph Gumani Mbedzi, counted himself lucky when Beitbridge
Regional Magistrate, Innocent Bepura, wholly suspended the jail term on condition of
good behaviour though he noted the youth started crime at the deep end.
Mbedzi from the Gumane Village, Msane area of Beitbridge West on June 11 this
year was holding a knife while tussling with a friend, Kelvin Magumbudze, he later
stabbed on the left ear and left side of his chest.
According to the charge, Gumani attempted to kill Magumbudze.
But in his guilty plea Mbedzi accepted having made a mistake while playing with his
friend, which Bepura took into consideration.
Beitbridge prosecutor Claudious Karinga represented the State.
