MUTARE-Twenty-two passengers aboard a Trip Trans bus heading for Mutare
were last week robbed of money and valuable goods worth thousands of dollars
by three gunmen, some 20 kilometers before Mutare.
The incident occurred just before the tollgate along the Mutare-Bocha highway.
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the
incident in which a bus which was travelling from Muchena Business Centre
with 22 people on board was robbed at gunpoint.
“The three robbers boarded the bus at Bambazonke bus stop headed for Mutare.
One of the suspects then requested for recess at the 22 miles bustop claiming he
was having trouble with a running stomach. He disembarked the bus for a short
while and came back on board. Soon after getting seated next to his accomplice,
he produced an unidentified firearm and fired one shot at the windscreen
ordering everyone to lie down and surrender their valuables,” said Insp
Muzondo.
After collecting valuables, one more shot was fired at the back of the bus before
the three suspects immediately disembarked and fled the scene.
The robbers got away with a total value of US$943 cash and 10 cellphones
valued at US$635.
Police who attended the scene recovered a 9mm live round and a 9mm used
cartridge in the bus.
Inspector Muzondo said the case was still under investigation with a manhunt
launched for the three robbers.
