Decision riles complainant
CHEGUTU – A complainant in a rape case has blasted a local magistrate for giving a
suspected rapist of a 14-year-old 20 000RTGS bail.
The accused, Takudzwa Sinoya of Selous plots was arrested by police after the girl
had eloped to him.
The granting of bail did not go down well with the girls' father, who reported the
matter to Selous police .Police went to investigate and found the two love birds
together.
Sinoya was arrested for being in love with an under-age girl. He was brought to court
in Chegutu.
The magistrate, however, remanded Sinoya out of custody on 20 000RTGS bail, a
decision which made the girl’s father see red.
Takudzwa interfered with my daughter on all accounts. I invested a lot in my
daughter, but the guy decided otherwise. I don't know why the magistrate remanded
Tafadzwa out of custody," said the father, shedding tears.
The father reiterated that he was the complainant in the matter.
"Ndakanomhangara kumapurisa munhu ndokusungwa, asi matongero aita mejasitiriti
haana kundifadza nekuti mwana wangu akashandiswa achiri pwere. Vedare
vaifanira kuvharira bhinya rakadai," said the girls' father.
Cases of child marriage are on the increase, especially in farming communities.
However, not all cases of under-age marriages are reported, thus giving advantage
to the perpetrators.
