Adventist church donates to Marondera hospital
Marondera (New Ziana) The Adventist Laymen’s Services and Industries (ASI) on Saturday handed over 10 wheelchairs and some curtains worth US$2 000 to the Marondera Provincial Hospital, a move set to make work easy for the emergency section at the health facility.
The curtains will provide privacy to both male and female patients who share the same ward.
Before the donation, patients did not have privacy, and besides the pain they will be going through, their dignity was also being impaired as they were being examined in the full glare of other patients, including the opposite sex.
Speaking during the hand-over ceremony, president of the church Victor Tichareva said ASI, a department under the Seventh Day Adventist Church, was making the donation out of love and not because it has abundant resources and urged other organisations to emulate the gesture.
“The donation might look small, but it took a lot of work by people who besides coming to church, have other equally important things in life to focus on such as going to work.
“Imagine these are people who do other things during the week, and to take time to do this, really shows that commitment for service, commitment for the community, commitment to Zimbabwe, because these are now national treasures, these are now assets of the Government of Zimbabwe, of our great nation,” he said.
Tichareva added that the wheelchairs will go a long way in bringing the medical facility at par with other private institutions which demands a lot of money from patients.
He said the wheelchairs also bring dignity to patients who will be wheeled on a proper device, while for the relatives, it reflects well on the hospital staff that they are giving good care to the patients.
Speaking at the same event, ASI church elder Elvis Ncube said the donation was one of many other social responsibility activities they had planned to do this year as a church, saying their next port of call was Marondera Prison, where they would donate other items.
