AROUND 40 unemployed youths, picked from Bindura and Shamva districts, who
have been into drugs and substances abuse, have been empowered with Shop
fitting and Metal fabrication skills with help from the Minister of Provincial Affairs and
Devolution, Senator Monicah Mavhunga.
The minister engaged the expertise of Alutech Constructions, an engineering
company but mainly focused on shop fitting and metal fabrication, to train the youths,
over two weeks.
Minister Mavhunga said this was in support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s
call for the community to help in raising upright youths, who shun drugs and
substances as well as crimes.
Among the trainees was one woman.
The Minister said her hope is to see the youths going on to register their companies
and thereafter applying for capital loans from a number of banks in the country,
ready to give loans to youths.
But according to Bonface Makanga, Alutech Construction Technical Director, they
are going to incubate the 40 for the next 12 months so that they polish outstanding
areas.
Makanga said: “Permission being granted, l would want to train more of these youths
in many other areas of production including garment making and carpentry.”
He is willing to see all youths being productive in the province and contributing to its
gross domestic product.
Mashonaland Central Show Society Chairperson Christopher Chingwaru, whose
premises were used, free of charge, for the training said the show society is ready to
offer the Minister and Alutech space for other trainings from September until
December.
Addressing the graduands, Minister Mavhunga called them to go out and be
productive as well as telling their other friends still into drugs to try the training and
other vocational trainings centres.
Ephraim Masawi, one of the graduands, said though Alutech is going to incubate
them for the 12 months, on the other hand he will be doing his side metal fabrication
hustles at his place in Bindura.
