Seven perish in road accident
Harare (New Ziana) – Seven people died on the spot whilst three others escaped with serious injuries when a Honda Fit carrying nine passengers was involved in a head-on collision with another car along Harare-Mutare highway on Wednesday.
The accident happened at the 60-kilometre peg, and police said they were still gathering details of the crash.
But eyewitnesses said the Honda Fit vehicle, which is thought to have been pirating from Marondera to Harare, encroached onto the oncoming lane, resulting in the accident.
“The ZRP reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 60-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road on 30/08/23 in which seven victims died while four others were injured,” police said on their X handle, formerly twitter.
“Honda Fit vehicle with eight passengers on board had a head on collision with a VW Toures which had one passenger on board. More details will be released in due course.”
Police often attribute road accidents to negligence, drunken driving and speeding.
