GWERU – Popular Gweru-based radio station, 98.4 Midlands FM, marked its 8th anniversary with a vibrant celebration held at the Gweru Civic Centre recently.
The event brought together listeners, supporters, and staff to commemorate nearly a decade of impactful broadcasting across the Midlands Province.
Speaking in an interview, Station Manager Victoria Nyanhete expressed pride in the station’s journey.
“It is with great pride and emotion that we celebrate eight remarkable years of service to the Midlands Province and its vibrant communities,” she said.
“This milestone is more than just a number, it reflects the countless voices, stories, and shared moments that have shaped our journey.”
Nyanhete highlighted the station’s role in hosting powerful conversations, showcasing local talent, covering key events, and maintaining a strong connection with the community.
“Our path hasn’t been without challenges. We’ve navigated a shifting media landscape, em-braced new technologies, and adapted to the ever-evolving needs of our listeners,” she said.
“But each obstacle has only strengthened our resolve and sharpened our vision.”
Looking ahead, she reaffirmed 98.4 FM’s commitment to deepening community engagement and amplifying local voices.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Owen Ncube encouraged media practitioners to inculcate a culture of integrity in their work.
“I encourage media practitioners to instill a culture integrity, shun corruption, refrain from spreading falsehoods, creating disunity and promoting foreign narratives that oppose the development aspirations of our motherland, Zimbabwe,” he said.
The minister said journalists and other media personalities must practice professionalism and high ethical standards that propel delivery of accurate, balanced and factual reporting without fear or favor.
