    Chapungu coach Marimo dies

    GWERU- THE ZIFA Central Region Soccer League side Chapungu United’s long-serving coach Tawanda Marimo has died.

    According to a statement from the club’s public relations officer Kennedy Khombo, Marimo died at Gweru General Hospital following a short illness.

    Khombo said the team is devastated by this heartbreaking loss.

    “Coach Marimo was not only a tactician but also a mentor, leader, and pillar of strength within the Waru Waru family.

    “His dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to the team will never be forgotten,” he said.

    Khombo conveyed condolences to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

    Marimo missed the last four games as he seemed to battling with a bout of flu.

    He was admitted to JT Airbase Hospital on Saturday and transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital on Sunday morning, where he died on Monday afternoon.

    Marimo has had a phenomenal stint as head coach since he took over the reins at Chapungu on June 28, 2023.

    Marimo was last year in August together with seven of his players drafted into the Zimbabwe Defence Forces team that played against the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Select team in the coveted ZDF Cup on Defence Forces Day at Rufaro Stadium in Harare.

    Meanwhile, the CRSL has rescheduled Chapungu’s mid-week fixture with Hardrock in Kwekwe to allow the club to mourn the passing on of coach Marimo.

    The CRSL extended their condolences to Chapungu FC and the entire football fraternity.

    Meanwhile Hardrock President Shepherd Magodora Chahwanda has joined the region in mourning Marimo.

    “Coach Marimo was a dedicated leader, true football servant and a source of inspiration within the football community. His passion for the game and his commitment to nurturing talent will be deeply missed,” Chahwanda said.

    Mourners are currently gathered at House number 103, Ngenyane Road, Mambo, Gweriu
