THE Chinhoyi Provincial Heroes’ Acre is set to undergo a stunning transformation with comprehensive face lift that will enhance its dignity and beauty, transforming the site into a more dignified monument.
The renovation will bring new life into the sacred site, making it an even more befitting tribute to the provinces’ heroes and well-maintained environment for visitors to pay their respects to the fallen freedom fighters.
The project is also expected to boost tourism in the town as there is the Seven Heroes’ monument, where seven freedom fighters were killed. Sites such as these showcase the rich history and heritage of the province.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony marking the beginning of the construction work which will be taken by the Defence Forces in partnership with Zim-China.
Addressing stakeholders, who attended the ground-breaking ceremony, Minister Marian Chombo appreciated the good work which is going to transform the appearance of the provincial cemetery giving it a new look.
“It is with great joy and deep honour as we gather to officially launch a landmark infrastructure development project that will elevate and transform this revered Provincial Heroes’ Acre into a fitting symbol of our nation’s gratitude and remembrance.
“I would like to express my appreciation to Zim-China, which includes Ministry of Defence, working in collaboration with our Chinese counterparts. They will be assisting us by funding the projects that are planned for this place.
The development taking place here shows how much we value our history and culture. This place will become a well-known tourist attraction, not just for internationals visitors, but also locals including schools which will come and learn about the history of Zimbabwe.
We also believe this place will drive local development, contributing to an increase in our country’s GDP and stimulate the establishment of new businesses,” she said.
The project will be constructed in phases and the first phase is expected to be completed in 21 days – before Heroes’ holiday. It will see improvement of landscaping, construction of new toilets for VIP and the general public, guarding room, perimeter fence, parlour for mourners and flag poles.
