Harare, (New Ziana) -The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Chitungwiza-Hwedza Highway in Mashonaland East province, to facilitate the construction of the Dema Toll Plaza and associated infrastructure.
According to a notice that the Ministry released on Saturday, the closure will last until August 31 this year, and will affect the section of the highway at the 60 kilometre peg from Harare.
The Ministry has advised road users to utilize the constructed detour as an alternative access point during this period.
“To ensure the safety of all road users and facilitate the safe execution of construction works, the temporary closure is necessary,” it said.
The construction project is being carried out in accordance with Statutory Instrument 47 of 2021, which declared a state of disaster over the country’s road infrastructure network. The CMED Contracting has been engaged as the contractor for the project.
“The Ministry sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s cooperation and understanding during this period.”
The Dema Toll Plaza project is part of part of government’s efforts to improve the country’s road infrastructure network.
