GWANDA – THE fatal accident which claimed 22 lives has left many people in a
    state of shock.

Despite the number of the deceased, some people have criticised the way bodies
were transported from the accident scene to the mortuary.
Gruesome scenes showing the 22 bodies, in the open back of a lorry as they were
transported from eThandweni area near Chipangali to Bulawayo on Tuesday went
    viral of social media platforms.

Many believe that transportation of the bodies in that manner amounted to inhumane
    and insensitive treatment.

“Bodies just thrown into an open truck no blankets to cover them no body bags
nothing – where is the respect for the dead?” asked one concerned resident.
A Toyota Quantum with 22 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision
with a truck along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road.

The accident occurred at the 27km peg near Thandweni Store around 10 pm on
    Tuesday.

All the 22, including the driver, died on spot while two people who were in the DAF
    truck were injured.

National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the
    accident.

“The ZRP reports a fatal road accident which occurred on November 14, 2023 at
around 2200 hours at the 27km.peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road near
Thandweni Store in which 22 people were killed whilst two others were injured when
a Toyota Quantum vehicle with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on
collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board,” confirmed Assistant
    Commissioner Nyathi.
