Mutare (Pungwe News-New Ziana)- A Marange man, accused of impregnating his biological 20 year old dumb and deaf daughter, was on Wednesday arraigned before Mutare magistrates courts facing charges of rape.

Douglas Tsavayo, 39, of Ringai village under Chief Marange denied the charges when he appeared before magistrate Nortilda Muchineripi.

He was denied bail and remanded in custody to October 10 for trial.
In denying bail, magistrate Muchineripi said the suspect is likely to interfere with State witnesses and was a flight risk since he was facing a serious offence.

Prosecutor Godswish Dzivakwe told the court that sometime in January 2019, Tsavayo entered into the dining room where his deaf and dump daughter was sleeping and forced himself on her after pulling her dress.

The suspect reportedly used a torch to light up the room where his daughter was sleeping.

After committing the offence, the court was told that Tsavayo threatened his daughter not to divulge the matter to anyone.

But the matter came to light when the complainant’s mother discovered that her daughter was pregnant.

After a through interrogation, the complainant spilled the beans forcing her mother to report the matter to police.
