CHINHOYI- LOCAL jazz band, Boom Jazz secured second place at the prestigious Chibuku Road to Fame national competition held in Harare recently.

This year’s Chibuku Road to Fame music competition was held under the theme “Bviravira, Tshay ’Ingoma”. The contest is not just a prestigious talent scouting competition, but a celebration of music, culture and artistic expression.

Boom Jazz from Chinhoyi mesmerised the audience with their renditions of Mutoriro, Mufarinya and Whatsapp.

Mutoriro has lyrics that campaigns to end drug and substance abuse, while Whatsapp song highlights how social media is contributing to domestic violence and divorces.

Out of the eight finalists, Boom Jazz come second, following the champions Kweseka from Matabeleland North Province.

Shanty Town (Mashonaland Central), the Cousins (Midlands), Outlaws (Harare), Fugees Band (Matabeleland South), Pilgrims of Christ (Mashonaland East) and Panhimbe (Masvingo) were some of the groups that were vying for the top spot at Glamis Arena in Harare.

Out of the eight provincial finalists, Kweseka stood out and scooped the first price with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary dance moves.

Their performance was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of Zimbabwe and the crowd could not help but become ecstatic, infected by their energy and passion.

The judges praised the two groups saying their performances were outstanding, showed technical skill, musicality and passion, meaning that the bands had it all.

The achievement by the two groups validates the hard work and dedication they have.

Kweseka received US$15000 plus a recording contract while Boom Jazz walked away US$10 000 richer and Music to Music smiled all their way to the bank with US$7 000 for landing the third position.

Boom Jazz’s victory has also sparked a sense of pride and inspiration among young people in Mashonaland West Province, showing them that they too can achieve greatness through talent and passion.

The Chibuku brand is more than just a sponsor as it embodies the spirit of community and togetherness through music and dance.

The competition allows the brand to engage with consumers nationwide.
