MBERENGWA– A 23-year-old man was left for dead after his hut was allegedly set on fire by his
brothers over a long standing inheritance dispute.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the victim Innocent Taru and the
suspects Admire Taru (27) and Givemore Dube (37) are brothers and all reside at their late parents
homestead at Village Josiah under Chief Nyamhondo in Mberengwa.
“It is alleged that there is a dispute among the brothers concerning who should occupy their late
parents homestead,” the police spokesperson said.
He said on January 15 at about 3am, an unknown person locked Innocent’s door from outside using
a wire while he was sleeping and set the hut on fire.
Innocent woke up and discovered that his hut was on fire, broke the door which was tied with a wire
    and bolted out.
The matter was reported at ZRP Mataga and investigations are still under way.
“Police are appealing to members of the public who might have information that may help in this
investigation to report to any police station or make use of our suggestion boxes nearer to them.”
Insp. Mahoko appealed to the public to solve their disputes or differences amicably by engaging
third parties to manage their issues.
“Use of violence constitutes an offence and might lead to unnecessary loss of lives,” he said.
