Bulawayo,(New Ziana)- The 28th edition of the Mining Engineering and Transport Expo (Mine Entra) to be held next week will see Zimbabwe aligning with its national ambitions for sustainability, industrialisation, and inclusive growth under its vision to become an upper middle income society by 2030, an official has said.

Addressing the media, Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) chairperson Busisa Moyo said the event will not just be another trade show, but will move beyond extraction to creating lasting impact for communities, environment and economy.

“We are spotlighting responsible mining practices, green technologies, and strategic partnerships that can unlock long-term value,” Moyo said. This year the event will run from October 8-10 under the theme: “Beyond Extraction: Sustaining the Future of Mining” and President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officially open it on October 9.

The mining trade show will be held alongside the Africa Infrastructure and Built Environment Conference and Expo (AfriConfex) in a strategic co-location designed to foster cross-sectoral linkages between mining, energy, engineering, transport, and logistics.

Moyo said the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Miners Federation are jointly organising the showcase this year.

“We are promising a transformative platform aimed at driving the country’s mining sector beyond extraction,” he said. He said over 240 direct exhibitors, including representatives from China, India, South Africa, and the United Kingdom have already confirmed their participation.

“The high level of local and international interest reflects growing confidence in Zimbabwe’s mining sector as reforms continue to take root. We are seeing renewed momentum in the sector, with players both large and small looking to collaborate, innovate, and invest. Mine Entra is where those conversations happen,” he said.

Moyo added that the event will also host a robust Buyers Program, structured to connect suppliers with major mining houses. “In addition, an industry-driven conferencing program featuring forums led by the Chamber of Mines and the Zimbabwe Miners Federation is expected to generate key policy recommendations,” Moyo said.

He said in a show of corporate social responsibility, the annual Mine Entra Charity Golf Tournament will support Albinism Konnect in acquiring a mobile skin clinic to serve remote communities. “We want to demonstrate that mining is not just about digging minerals, it’s about uplifting lives, protecting the environment, and building a future we can all be proud of,” Moyo added.

Since its inception in 1996, Mine Entra has evolved into Zimbabwe’s premier mining, engineering, and transport trade show. Traditionally held in Bulawayo, the expo has grown in scope and influence, attracting policymakers, investors, and industry leaders from across the continent.

With mining contributing around 12 percent of the country`s Gross Domestic Product(GDP), the sector is a key pillar of the national vision to attain upper middle income status by 2030. The 2025 Mine Entra comes amid sweeping sectoral reforms and a growing national push for beneficiation, local content promotion, and environmental stewardship.
