Harare, Zimbabwe – Schweppes Holdings Africa Limited has announced the retirement of Charles Msipa, its managing director for the past two decades.
In a statement, board chairman Vulindlela Ndlovu said Msipa’s retirement marks the conclusion of an extraordinary 20-year career with the company, where he became an instrumental figure in the growth and success of the business.
“We announce the upcoming retirement of Mr. Charles Nkululeko Msipa at the end of April 2025, after an exemplary 20-year tenure in our business, the majority of which he served as Managing Director. Charles joined Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited as Sales and Marketing Director in 2005 and was appointed Managing Director in 2006,” he said.
He said Msipa saw the company through significant challenges in the operating environment, guiding Schweppes through turbulent economic conditions and spearheading key business initiatives.
When he joined Schweppes, Msipa brought valuable international experience to the company, having spent 13 years at The Coca Cola Company in various roles across Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and North America.
Ndlovu said the diverse background equipped him with a wide-ranging skill set that greatly benefitted Schweppes Zimbabwe.
He said one of the major achievements of Msipa’s tenure was his pivotal role in the successful localisation of Schweppes Zimbabwe Limited’s shareholding in 2009, an initiative that included the participation of both management and employees.
“His leadership also saw the expansion of the company’s brand portfolio and the investment in the Beitbridge Juicing Company, a strategic move that solidified Schweppes’ position in the Zimbabwean market,” said Ndlovu.
Msipa has not only been a leader within the company but also within Zimbabwe’s broader business community.
He has actively participated in various business member organisations, including serving as the former president and national council member of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI).
Msipa also served as chairman of the Business Council for Sustainable Development Zimbabwe (BCSDZ), the PET Recycling Company of Zimbabwe, and the National Competitiveness Commission (NCC) while his influence also extended to a variety of other boards where he served as a non-executive director.
Ndlovu expressed deep appreciation for Charles Msipa’s outstanding contributions to the company over the years.
“We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Charles for his leadership and dedication to Schweppes,” he said.
“His efforts have been instrumental in steering the company through challenging times and achieving significant milestones. While we will miss his presence and guidance, we fully support his decision to retire and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” he added.
