Harare, (New Ziana) — Construction of the Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium, also known as the Victoria Falls Multipurpose Cricket Ground, is progressing at remarkable speed, with Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) confident the facility will be completed by March 2026, well in time for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup which Zimbabwe will co-host with Namibia, the Government has said.

Posting on its National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), the Government said the stadium, designed to hold 10,000 spectators, is being developed at a cost of between US$5 million and US$10 million, funded primarily through grants from the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“The Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium, also known as the Victoria Falls Multipurpose Cricket Ground, is indeed taking shape rapidly.

“Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) is pushing to complete the facility by March 2026, just in time to host the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which Zimbabwe will co-host with Namibia,” said the Government.

The project is expected to significantly bolster Zimbabwe’s cricket infrastructure and expand the country’s capacity to host major international events.

The modern facility will feature a professional playing field, practice nets, electronic scoreboards, a grandstand, changing rooms, lounges, hospitality suites, and a fully equipped broadcast and media centre.

Engineers on site say most structural works are already taking shape, with installations of sporting and media infrastructure set to begin early next year.

Designed as a multi-purpose complex, the Government said it will also accommodate rugby, hockey, netball and other sporting disciplines, positioning Victoria Falls as a regional hub for sports tourism. Its scenic location overlooking the world-famous waterfall is expected to draw both athletes and fans, potentially making it one of Africa’s most iconic sporting venues.

Once complete, the Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium will give Zimbabwe a world-class facility at a time the country is working to revive and expand its sporting profile on the global stage.
