Harare (New Ziana)-The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) resolved and finalised 186 cases out of the 255 that were reported to it last year, a cabinet minister said on Tuesday.
In a weekly post Cabinet briefing, Information Communication and Technology and Courier Services Jenfan Muswere said this proved that the Second Republic was serious about upholding national unity, peace and reconciliation as building blocks for achieving equitable and sustainable national development.
From the targeted 95.5 percent case clearance rate for 2022, the NPRC achieved 98 percent compared to 95 percent in 2021.
In a bid to improve peace and national cohesion, 73 percent of conflict incidences received were resolved;
“The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission received 255 complaints and finalized 186 cases, while 69 were at various stages of investigations,” said Muswere.
He said the conflict cases encompassed land and boundary disputes, malicious damage to property, assault, rape and unfair trial and detention.
Muswere said peace Committees were established in 33 percent of the country’s 70 districts during the Fourth Quarter of 2022 namely in Buhera, Bulawayo, Harare, Hwange, Gweru, Kariba, Masvingo, Mutare and Mutoko.
Other districts include Nkayi, Lupane, Matopo, Tsholotsho, Guruve, Mutasa, Nkulumane and Goromonzi.
