Harare,  (New Ziana) – Transport and Infrastructural Development Deputy Minister, Joshua Sacco on Wednesday led a media tour to assess progress in the rehabilitation and expansion of the Harare–Masvingo–Beitbridge highway, one of Zimbabwe’s flagship infrastructure projects.

In a statement, the Ministry said the delegation toured key sections of the project, including the Mucheke River Bridge, the Chimusana Bridge, and the site of the new “flyover” near Masvingo Polytechnic College, where a trumpet interchange is set to be constructed.

The new interchange will enable vehicles travelling along the Harare–Beitbridge corridor to bypass Masvingo’s central business district, significantly reducing congestion and improving traffic flow.

Sacco said the ongoing works are part of the government’s broader infrastructure development agenda aimed at enhancing national and regional connectivity. “The completion of this vital road link will not only improve traffic efficiency but also strengthen Zimbabwe’s position as a transport hub in Southern Africa. ”

We have accelerated works on the remaining sections, including the stretch around Ngundu, as we move closer to delivering a modern, seamless highway,” he said.

Accompanying the Deputy Minister were Permanent Secretary for Transport and Infrastructural Development Eng. Joy Makumbe, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructural Development Tawanda Karikoga, committee members Beatrice Nyamupinga and Vincent Sihlabo, and Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) Chief Executive Officer Nkosinathi Ncube, among other senior officials.

The Harare–Masvingo–Beitbridge highway project is one of the Second Republic’s major infrastructure undertakings, and once completed is expected to boost trade, tourism, and economic activity along Zimbabwe’s busiest transport corridor.
