    Quantum kombi carrying school children overturns

    Harare, (New Ziana) –A Toyota Quantum commuter omnibus carrying learners from Mutero High School in Gutu, Masvingo province, was involved in a serious road traffic accident at the 106 km peg along the Harare-Beitbridge Road near Chivhu on Monday, the police have confirmed.

    The commuter omnibus was on its way to Masvingo when the driver lost control and it overturned three times near the Munyati River Bridge, landing on its wheels.

    “The accident occurred around 10:00 hours this morning and all the vehicle occupants are currently being treated at Chivhu General Hospital.

    “More details pertaining to the accident will be revealed in due course,” police said.

    Monday was a hive of activity for learners, parents, and transporters as boarders throughout the country were returning to school for the second, which opens on Tuesday.

    Meanwhile, police in Gweru are investigating a fatal road traffic accident involving two Toyota Quantum commuter omnibuses that occurred at the 6 km peg along the Gweru-Shurugwi Road on Sunday.

    One person died while 29 others were injured when the two White Nissan Caravan commuter omnibuses with 18 passengers each onboard sideswiped.

    The body of the victim, which could not be revealed as the next of kin were yet to be notified, was taken to the Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same Hospital.
