SCOTTLAND FC tightened their hold on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title race, extending their lead at the top of the table to four points after a tense midweek stalemate against FC Platinum at Rufaro Stadium.
The champions were unable to find a breakthrough in a tightly contested Matchday 28 encounter, settling for a point that nevertheless moved them to 58 points from 28 matches.
The result leaves Scottland four points clear of their closest challengers, Hardrock FC, who remain on 54 points from 27 matches. Hardrock, however, have a game in hand. The Kwekwe-based team will have an opportunity to reduce the gap when they face relegation-threatened TelOne FC in a Midlands derby at Chahwanda Stadium on Saturday.
A victory for Hardrock would take them to 57 points, leaving them just one point behind Scottland and ensuring that the championship race remains firmly alive as the business end of the season approaches.
Hardrock’s task will nevertheless be far from straightforward, with TelOne fighting for survival. The bottom three currently comprise AGAMA FC on 22 points, TelOne on 20, and Manica Diamonds on 19, while Triangle United are 18th on 18 points.
Scottland’s latest draw also means they have now collected 58 points from 28 games, with an impressive record of 16 wins, 10 draws, and only two defeats. They have scored 42 goals and conceded just 10, giving them a commanding +32 goal difference.
The champions’ defensive consistency has been one of the defining features of their campaign, although their recent run has seen them drop points through draws. Before the FC Platinum stalemate, Scottland had drawn with MWOS and Dynamos, before beating Simba Bhora 2-1.
The match also attracted the attention of the Hardrock technical bench, with coach Kelvin Kaindu reportedly among those watching proceedings as the title challengers kept a close eye on the leaders.
With only a handful of matches separating the leading sides from the finish line, Scottland’s four-point cushion gives them an important advantage, but Hardrock’s game in hand means that the championship race is far from settled.
For Scottland, the immediate challenge will be balancing their league ambitions with their upcoming CAF Champions League commitments, as they prepare to face Eswatini champions Nsingizini Hotspurs in the first round of the continental competition.
The title equation is therefore becoming increasingly clear: Scottland have the points advantage, but Hardrock have one game in hand—and Saturday’s Midlands derby could be crucial in determining whether the leaders’ four-point cushion becomes a genuine championship buffer or is cut to just one point.
