SOMABHULA– Following an electrifying and widely acclaimed musical showcase, the renowned collective Dr. Lux, born Lucky Dube, has been awarded a generous sum of US$1,000 by Senator Makenzi Ncube.
The donation, presented in recognition of their five-star performance, is specifically earmarked to upgrade the band’s musical instruments, promising an even top-class performance in future shows.
The performance, held at the belated Vungu Constituency victory celebrations, was described by attendees and critics alike as nothing short of spectacular.
Dr. Lux, leader of the charismatic five-member ensemble, enchanted the packed Somabhula Primary School ground with their signature blend of Mapiyano-Afro Jazz-infused music, delivering intricate melodies, powerful vocals, and a tight rhythmic foundation that resonated deeply with the audience.
The ensemble wowed the audience with the songs penned and tailor-made for the event titled Usengenile and Sayina, dedicated to Vungu MP Brown Ndlovu.
Their vibrant stage presence and undeniable energy culminated in multiple encores, solidifying their reputation as one of the promising premier live acts in the Midlands province.
Senator Ncube, was captivated by the band’s exceptional talent and dedication.
After the final standing ovation, the Senator approached the stage to present the unexpected gift, emphasising the critical importance of supporting local artists.
“May Nhlanhla and band members come forward. Before I conclude, I would like to appreciate this musician and his team members. The MP has informed me about your limitations, I was made to understand you are in genuine need of musical instruments. Today I am going to give you US$1000 towards your instruments,” he said.
Senator Ncube further remarked, saying his gesture comes as a testament to the power of music and the sheer talent possessed in the community.
“It is imperative that we invest in these cultural gems that bring so much joy and enrichment to our lives,” he said while handing over the US$1000 cash to the ensemble.
Reacting to the unexpected but deeply appreciated gesture, Luck Dube, the driving force behind Dr. Lux, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the entire group.
“We are overwhelmed by Senator Ncube’s generosity and belief in our craft. This will go a long way in promoting our art,” he said, his voice filled with joyous emotion.
Dube elaborated on the immediate impact the funds would have.
“This US$1 000 will go a tremendously long way in upgrading our standard of performance. It means new strings, better amplification systems, and the ability to truly polish our sound to the level our dedicated fans deserve. This kind of support fuels our commitment to excellence and pushes us to reach even greater heights.”
