Harare, (New Ziana) – The ruling Zanu PF party will continue to pay particular attention to increasing production and productivity in the agriculture sector, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.
He said this while addressing the 25th National Consultative Assembly meeting in Harare on Friday.
“We must remain a food-secure country and increase exports of agricultural products. So far, Government is putting in place measures to ensure the value addition of all our crops, such as tobacco. More boreholes will be drilled at the village level, while inputs under the Pfumvudza/Intwasa program will continue to be distributed in good time. “Our people should get the best possible prices for all our local Zimbabwean products.
Following the successful 2024/25 rainfall season, we are set for another bumper harvest. I call upon the party leadership, to encourage our famers to deliver grain to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) and to utilize the grain collection depots in the designated areas across provinces and districts,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said Zanu PF-led programs and projects are being undertaken in all provinces, districts and wards.
He said several roads in all parts of the country are being either rehabilitated or constructed while the national railways are being modernised.
“Resources for the rehabilitation, upgrading and maintenance of our country’s roads have been mobilised, with works having started in most areas. I was pleased to commission one of Zany PF signature projects, the Trabablas Traffic Interchange. This project is a befitting showcase of Zimbabwean talent, ingenuity and potential. Similar infrastructure will be rolled out in more cities across the country,” he said.
“There is increased economic activity in the countryside, driven by our rural industrialisation projects and expanding mining sector. To release pressure off our roads, the resuscitation and modernisation of our national railways is now an urgent priority, which Government is seized with.”
The rehabilitation and construction of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls road has begun and other road projects that the government is focusing on include Birchenough-Chipinge, Murambinda-Mudanda, Gokwe-Nkayi, Kuwirirana-Nemangwe, Muzvezve-Empress Mine, Zvishavane-Rutenga, Rushinga-Chimhanda, Murehwa-Madacheche, Headlands-Mayo, Beitbridge-Bulawayo and Harare-Chirundu roads, among others.
On the economic front, President Mnangagwa said the measures that Government implemented to strengthen fiscal discipline and a stable currency are bearing fruit, with evident macro-economic stability.
“I commend the people of our country for the socio-economic progress we are making since adopting our gold-backed Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG). Investment by our local children and Zimbabweans in the diaspora is applauded. This reflects the growing confidence and patriotism among our people towards our motherland. Let us, however, remain vigilant against those who may attempt to undermine our country’s progress, economy and national image,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa announced that in line with the devolution and decentralisation policy and standing decision to rotate the hosting of national events across the country, the 2026 Independence Day celebrations will be hosted by Matabeleland South province.
In the same spirit, this year’s 22nd National People’s Conference will be held in Manicaland. He urged unity in the rank and file of Zanu PF before calling for mobilisation of more members to join the party.
“Let us continue to preach unity within the party and among our people. The party membership should never let their guard down. Let us remain alert, focused and work harder to build, modernise and mobilise more people to join our colossal revolutionary mass party, Zanu PF. As you are all aware, our party is found on constitutionalism, discipline, patriotism and loyalty. “
We must all stay true to the correct party line and teach our strong revolutionary ideals to the younger members of the party. Together, let us advance, defend and promote the interests of our party, communities at the grassroots level and our nation as a whole,” he said.
