    Zanu PF sweeps all weekend Parliamentary and council by-elections

    Harare, (New Ziana) – The ruling Zanu PF party won the two contested Parliamentary and council by-elections held at the weekend, further consolidating its political dominance in the country.

    The party secured Parliamentary victories in Insiza North and Gutu East, as well as council seats in the Binga Ward 4 and Chipinge Ward 5 Rural District Councils (RDCs).

    According to official results from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), Zanu PF’s Delani Moyo won the Insiza North National Assembly seat with 7 171 votes while his closest rival, Independent candidate Leslie Dube received 1 187 votes.

    Mbongeni Moyo of the Zimbabwe National Revival Party (ZNRP) garnered 131 votes, while ZAPU’s Thabani Mlotshwa got 114. In Gutu East, Zvarevashe Masvingise won by a wide margin with 9 321 votes while closest rival Independent candidate Gift Gonese garnered 2 269 votes and the NCA’s Zivanai Nzvenga trailed with 173 votes.

    The Insiza North seat became vacant following the death of Farai Taruvinga in March this year while in Gutu East, the by-election was triggered after Zanu PF recalled and expelled Benjamin Ganyiwa. In the Binga RDC Ward 4, Zanu PF’s Brian Munsaka secured victory with 910 votes, defeating Independent Mipia Dube, who got 160 votes.

    In Chipinge RDC Ward 5, Humbe Singatini won with 1 748 votes, Independent candidate Godfrey Sakini received 362, Tinozivei Mkachana of the NCA got 100, and Ndinani Zvigumi garnered 24 votes.
