Harare, (New Ziana) – The ruling Zanu PF party has intensified its electoral campaign efforts ahead of the Chikomba district local government by-elections scheduled for February 21, 2026, with the party leadership declaring determination to secure victory in both Ward 7 and Ward 12.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) set the date for the polls following vacancies in the two wards. Ward 7 fell vacant after the death of Zanu PF councillor Cde Florence Mudzamiri, while Ward 12 was left open after Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) representative Ishmael Maukazuva was jailed for sexual misconduct involving a minor.
Launching the campaign at Kadungure Business Centre, Zanu PF’s provincial chairman Daniel Garwe urged party members to rally behind the candidates – Fortunate Chakwanda for Ward 7 and Pardon Mudzimu for Ward 12.
“We want nothing short of victory in the coming by-elections. On the date of elections, let’s go out in our numbers and vote for the cadres who will represent our party, Zanu PF. We must defend Ward 7, which we won in the previous general election, and reclaim Ward 12 from the opposition,” Garwe said.
Chikomba West legislator, Tatenda Mavetera echoed the call, highlighting ongoing development projects in the district. She emphasized that the continuity of such initiatives depended on voters supporting the ruling party’s candidates.
“The momentum we have built can only be maintained if people vote for Zanu PF,” she said.
The candidates have been provided with sufficient resources to power their campaigns, underscoring Zanu PF’s determination to consolidate its hold on the district.
