    ZEC finalises delimitation list

    CHINHOYI – THE Delimitation Committee of the Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) has
    finalised proposed delimitation list of constituencies and wards for local government ahead of
    next year’s harmonised elections.
    The committee initial delimitation list of 22 constituencies and 234 local government wards will
    be forwarded for the next process to commence.
    Objections and suggestions submitted on initial lists were incorporated into the final proposal.
    Ambassador Rodney Simukayi Kiwa, who is the ZEC Deputy Chairperson, has been appointed
    to superintend Mashonaland West in terms of election activities in the province.
    ZEC Mashonaland West used statistics of the national voter registration, which was 5 804 376 as
    at 30 May this year, when the voter registration closed.
    Mashonaland West Province had a total number of 661 289 registered voters, which gives an
    average voter population of 27 640, with the lower limit of 22 112 and an upper limit stand at 33
    168 for each constituency.
    Members of Parliament and local government councillors complete their five -year term early
    next year with elections slated to be held just after the term expires.
    Kudakwashe Chigumo, who attended the meeting, pointed out that ZEC ignored traditional
    boundaries but Mashonaland West Provincial Elections Officer responded that ZEC considered
    the number of registered voters as stated in the Electro Act.
    Different stakeholders and representatives of political parties attended the all-stakeholder
    meeting.
    Alderman Willie Nyambi represented Movement for Democratic Change, Abigail Usai and
    Kudakwashe Chigumo were standing for the Citizen Coalition for Change, Brain Makukutse
    represented ZANU PF, and Alderman Richard Chafausipo came from the Chinhoyi Ratepayers’
    Association, among others.
