Harare, (New Ziana) – The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has confirmed that Premier Soccer League referee Quedsani Dirwai has been suspended for poor officiating.
In a statement ZIFA said the official has been sanctioned from top-flight officiating duties, following what it described as a performance that “fell short of professional standards.”
The suspension spans six matchdays from Matchday 18 to Matchday 23 of the ongoing Premier Soccer League (PSL) season, and comes in the aftermath of the high-profile fixture between FC Platinum and Dynamos, played at Mandava Stadium on 22 June 2025.
”The Zimbabwe Football Association wishes to inform the public and football stakeholders that referee Quedsani Dirwai has been serving a suspension from officiating Premier Soccer League matches, in line with the Association’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of refereeing and fair play in the domestic game,” said the football governing body.
ZIFA said a post-match review, including the Match Commissioner’s official report, concluded that Dirwai’s handling of the match failed to meet the expectations required at the Premier League level.
Without disclosing specific details of the errors, it said the outcome triggered disciplinary action under Paragraph 21 of the ZIFA Referees Code of Conduct.
”This six-match-day suspension is both a corrective and disciplinary measure. We remain committed to maintaining the integrity of the game and ensuring that all match officials operate within the framework of professionalism, accountability, and consistency,” said ZIFA.
”ZIFA reiterates its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the game and ensuring that all match officials operate within the framework of professionalism, accountability, and consistency,” it said.
The decision has sparked renewed discussions around the standard of refereeing in the domestic league, with calls from some quarters for more robust training and support systems for match officials.
