Harare, (New Ziana) –The Zimbabwe government has approved the National One Health Strategic Plan (2026–2030), a comprehensive roadmap designed to strengthen the ability of the country to tackle challenges that cut across human, animal, plant and environmental ecosystems.
Announcing the development during a post-Cabinet media briefing on Tuesday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere said the strategy is firmly aligned with the vision to become an upper middle income society by 2030, the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), the forthcoming NDS2 priority areas, as well as global and continental frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the One Health Joint Plan of Action.
“The plan seeks to build strong collaboration across sectors to effectively respond to endemic and emerging zoonotic diseases, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, as well as the health impacts of climate change,” he said.
The Strategic Plan will be implemented through five key pillars, each anchored on defined strategies, activities, timelines and performance indicators, namely Coordination, Prevention and Control of One Health Threats, Sustainable Financing, Research and Development and Advocacy, Communication and Capacity Building.
Dr Muswere noted that the holistic approach of the strategy will enable the country to safeguard public health, protect livelihoods and build resilience against the growing interlinkages between people, animals, plants and ecosystems.
“The plan places Zimbabwe on a stronger path to sustainable health security while reinforcing our commitment to global health priorities,” he said.
Adoption of the One Health Strategic Plan (2026–2030) signals the determination of the government to proactively address complex health threats through coordinated, science-driven and sustainable interventions.
