Harare, (New Ziana) – Zimbabwe on Tuesday recorded the biggest spike yet in cases of local transmission of Covid-19 as infections continue on an upward trend, clocking 787 cases.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care said 34 of the 53 cases recorded on Tuesday were due to local transmission while the remainder were imported.

“Twenty nine of the local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases, investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the other five local cases,” it said.

Returnees from South Africa and Botswana accounted for the other 19 new cases.

Four new recoveries were also recorded to bring the total of recoveries to 201.

A total of 81 335 tests have been carried out since the first case was recorded at the end of March, 2020.
