Harare, (New Ziana) — Police have dismissed a senior officer for misconduct, and also reported a series of tragic incidents, including drownings, a fatal road accident, and a murder, recorded this week countrywide.
Police national spokesperson, Paul Nyathi said assistant inspector Simbarashe Mandizvidza was discharged from the Police Service on 3 December 2025.
He was found to have “improperly conducted himself and acted in an unbecoming manner” during incidents that occurred on 13 and 14 August 2025.
Nyathi said the disciplinary action was taken after “duly constituted and appropriate administrative procedures,” underscoring the police’s firm stance on upholding professionalism and integrity within the force.
“The Commissioner-General of Police does not condone criminal acts and unruly conduct by police officers. He will therefore not hesitate to institute the relevant disciplinary procedures according to the provisions of the Police Act,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nyathi reported that two young boys, aged three and five, drowned in Binyala Dam in Sibantubantu Village, Filabusi, on 8 December 2025. The minors had accompanied their mother to the dam and disappeared while she was washing clothes.
“Villagers conducted a search, and the victims’ bodies were later found submerged in the dam on December 9. The Police Sub-Aqua Unit has since retrieved the bodies, which were subsequently taken to Filabusi Hospital for post-mortem examination,” Nyathi said.
In another tragic incident, three people died in a road traffic accident along the Harare–Bulawayo Road on the same day. The accident occurred at the 156-kilometre peg when a Zhong Tong bus carrying 62 passengers travelling towards Kadoma allegedly struck a pedestrian walking in the middle of the road.
The bus driver reportedly swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid the pedestrian, resulting in a head-on collision with an Isuzu bakery vehicle travelling towards Kwekwe.
“As a result of the crash, the two occupants of the bakery vehicle were trapped in the vehicle and died on the spot. The pedestrian also died on the spot. The bodies of the three victims were conveyed to Kadoma General Hospital for post-mortem examination,” said Nyathi.
Meanwhile, police in Shamva have arrested 26-year-old Simon Wande in connection with a murder that took place on 9 December at Pawandiwa Shabeen Mine. Wande allegedly struck 46-year-old Tinei Pawandiwa on the head with a stone during a beer-drinking spree.
Pawandiwa sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Shamva Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon admission.
Nyathi urged the public to exercise caution during the festive season and to promptly report criminal activities as investigations into the incidents continue.
