Harare, (New Ziana) – For the 2023 murder of his wife following an argument over utilisation of money they had generated from the sale of some farm produce, a 42 year old man from Gwanda, Matabeleland South province, will spend the next 20 years in prison.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said Fedwell Moyo murdered his wife Da Msipa (27) on February 23, 2023 in their field at Enyandeni Village in Gwanda.
The couple had on the fateful day travelled to Vimbachikwe Mine to sell maize cobs and sweet reeds.
Upon their return home, an argument arose over how to use the money with Moyo preferring to use the money to pay school fees, and Msipa intending to start a business.
The disagreement escalated into violence and Moyo assaulted Msipa with a log, inflicting fatal injuries.
In an attempt to conceal the crime, Moyo buried Msipa’s body in a shallow grave within their maize fields. He also involved his young daughter in moving the body, though she was unaware of the circumstances.
On March 12, 2023, Moyo confessed to a local resident, Livious Tshaka, who reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest and subsequent trial and conviction.
Meanwhile, an elderly Bulawayo couple faces the prospect of spending the next three years in jail for theft of US$34 000 that had been erroneously deposited into their Stanbic Bank account.
Fransisca Netsai Sibanda and Frank Sibanda, both 65, were sentenced to seven years by the Tredgold Regional Magistrates’ Court and had four years conditionally suspended for five years and the remaining three on condition they repay the US$34 000 to Stanbic Bank by June 25 this year.
The NPAZ said the theft took place following an erroneous deposit made into Fransisca’s bank account after a failed Point of Sale (POS) transaction. The couple withdrew the cash and made purchases both in Zimbabwe and South Africa knowing very well that they were not entitled to the money.
