Harare (New Ziana) Zimbabwe will from June 19 to 25 this year host the World Youth and Juniors Handball Qualifiers to be graced by eight Southern African countries.

The games were initially scheduled for April 2020, rescheduled to 2021 but failed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Zimbabwe Handball Federation secretary general Edson Chirowodza confirmed the new dates, which the International Handball board and the Confederation of Handball Federation have announced.

“We are preparing to host some regional competitions for juniors and youth, where we are expecting eight to nine countries from Southern Africa to participate in the Under-18, which is the World Junior Qualifiers and Under-20, which is the World Youth Qualifiers.

“We are going to have two national teams from each country in the region coming to participate in the games. Basically, in terms of our development, we are a fast-growing sport, we have a foreign coach, who is currently coaching our senior men.”

Chirowodza said Zimbabwe was currently working on a project dubbed Vision 2026 for the girls’ team, and a Vision 2024 for the senior men for the All-Africa games to be held in Ghana in 2023.

He said they also had development programmes for national team coaches, in which they were going to hold a Level 3 coaching course to be held from May 11 to 15 this year in Harare.
