In a bizarre incident that has left Lupane villagers in shock, two three-year-old girls died in the
bedroom hut they were sleeping in after their house caught fire.
It is alleged that the three year girls, both from Dakiwe Village died from an inferno caused by a
paraffin lamp which their grandmother forgot to switch off.
According to the family's neighbours, their grandmother whom they lived with left them sleeping at
around 6am to harvest mangoes at one of the family gardens and about an hour later, they noticed
that the thatched bedroom where they were sleeping had caught fire.
“We all ran around to put out the raging fire, but it was too late to save the children,” said a witness.
After putting the fire out, villagers found the two bodies under the mattress.
Meanwhile Matebeleland Police spokesperson is yet to confirm the tragedy as they have not yet
received an official report.
