Harare (New Ziana) – The 2023 legal year will officially commence on Monday next week with Chief Justice Luke Malaba expected to deliver the keynote address at a ceremony at the Constitutional Court in the capital.

Chief Justice Malaba is also expected to set the judicial administrative agenda for the year.

Simultaneously, deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza, Constitutional Court judges Rita Makarau and Paddington Garwe and Judge President Mary Zimba-Dube are expected to preside over the opening ceremonies at the High Court in Bulawayo, Masvingo, Mutare and Chinhoyi respectively.

“Events to mark the official opening of the 2023 legal year will be held simultaneously in Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Mutare and Chinhoyi on January 9, 2023,” the Judicial Service Commission said.

The opening of the legal year also serves to highlight achievements and challenges encountered by the judiciary over the past year.

Some of the achievements of the judiciary include the introduction of the Integrated electronic case management system which among other things enables virtual court hearings, electronic case filing and automatic case allocation to judicial officers.
