Gweru (New Ziana) – The government has approved Gweru’s proposed new Central Business District (CBD) to be situated between the Fairmile Motel and the Midlands Private Hospital, a top municipal official has said.

It also approved, amid protests from residents, the relocation of Gweru Sports Club (Gymkhana sporting facilities) to a new site along Mvuma Road.

Gweru mayor, Hamutendi Kombayi said the new Gweru CBD layout plan will have 84 commercial stands, and will see the construction of a High Court, transport interchange terminus, upmarket malls, and office park, among other facilities.

“Land for the relocation of the Gymkhana sporting facilities (Gweru Sports Club) has since been approved by the Minister (of Local Government). The next step is developing and capacitating the sports grounds
relocation site into a state-of-the-art establishment,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kombayi said several housing development projects were on the cards, including Mkoba 20 Extension High Density suburb which will have 160 stands.

Another is Gwapa residential area, next to the Clifton Park Area, which will have 391 stands. Mambo South Medium Density Residential, is also on the cards, and will have 206 stands.
