Harare (New Ziana)- Water levels in the country’s major dams are rising due to inflows from the ongoing rainfall activity, an official said on Tuesday.
In an update, Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) acting corporate communications and marketing manager Tsungirirai Shoriwa said the increase in national dam water levels meant that the country would have enough water for irrigation.
“The current rains being experienced in various parts of the country continue to push water levels up in the major dams. As at January 9, 2023, the national dam level average stood at 81. 7 percent, up from 81. 2 percent seven days ago,” he said.
Shoriwa said increases in water levels were noted in dams such as Muchekeranwa, Siya, Osborne, Mtshabezi, Mhlangwa, Zhovhe, Valley, Tuli-Makwe, Ingwizi, Mazowe, Bubi-Lupane, Tshangwa, Tshongokwe, Pollards, Mananda, Chivero, Manyame and Biri among others.
“The increase in water levels translates to increased water security for irrigation and for domestic use,” he said.
