Harare (New Ziana)-Former Zimbabwe Republic Police Criminal Investigations Department officer Jaison Muvevi who was on the run since Friday after killing three people in Wedza, was on Monday morning arrested while trying to cross into Mozambique.

In a statement, the police acknowledged the support given by members of the public in the pursuit of the suspect.

“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police press statement on the shooting incident in which three people were shot dead while another person was seriously injured on 13th January 2023 in Wedza. The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that the murder suspect, Jaison Muvevi has been arrested while trying to cross into Mozambique this morning.

“Meanwhile, the victims of the murder have been identified as follows Crispen Mubvana Kanerusine (62) of Zinzombe Village, Wedza, Inspector Maxwell Hove (43) of ZRP Wedza Camp and Munashe Mujanhi (20) of Mujanhi Village, Wedza.

“The injured is Detective Constable Tendai Mugova,” it said.

Muvevi allegedly went to an apostolic sect church gathering in Wedza on Friday and fatally shot dead a self-styled prophet, Chrispen Kanerusine also known as Madzibaba Sirage.

He then attacked police officers who reacted to the shooting and shot dead the Officer-in-charge for Wedza police station Inspector Maxwell Hove and injured another policeman.

After the shooting, Muvevi drove to Mukamba Business Centre where he shot dead Munashe Mujanhi before driving away.

On Staurday Muvevi was involved in a fierce shoot with police in the Chiduku area near Rusape.

Realising that he was being overpowered, Muvevi abandoned his Toyota Allion vehicle and fled into the nearby Chigora mountain.
