Gweru (New Ziana) – Two men died after they were stabbed in two different incidents in Gweru and Zhombe last week, Midlands provincial police have said.
The first incident occurred at the Club 04 at Ascot Extension Business Centre popularly known as “kuGomba”.
Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said on February 16, Mthandazo Ncube (24) was gravely assaulted by fellow patrons at Club 04 at around 1am.
It is alleged that the now deceased Ncube was drinking beer in Club 04 in the company of a female friend aged 28.
A misunderstanding arose between him and three suspects Delon Nyoni (23), Wellington
Tawanda Mandipa (27) and another one only identified as Marshy.
The crew was ousted from the bar by the security guard as they were disturbing other patrons.
One of the suspects is alleged to have produced a knife threatening to stab the guard and he ran back into the bar leaving Ncube and the suspects fighting.
Ncube and his friend ran for their dear lives and hid in a nearby maize field but after a while Ncube decided to go back and confronted the suspects.
One of the suspects allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Ncube several times all over the body and he fell down bleeding profusely.
The three suspects fled from the scene leaving Ncube lying in a pool of blood.
A report was made at ZRP Mutapa and a quick reaction by the police led to the arrest of Nyoni and Mandipa. The third suspect Marshy is yet to be arrested.
Ncube’s body was found lying in a pool of blood with several stab wounds all over the body and it was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.
In an unrelated incident which occurred in Zhombe on February 15, two lovers were brutally attacked by an unknown suspect resulting in the death of the male counterpart and the female was left with severe injuries.
It is alleged that Ashmore Ncube (21) was coming from Fafi Business Centre, Zhombe in the company of his girlfriend Sheron Sikhangisiwe (22) of Village Sikwekwe, Chief Malisa, Zhombe and his young brother Obvious Mpofu (12).
Mpofu went home leaving Ncube and Sikhangisiwe walking slowly.
The following morning it was discovered that the two had not reached home and a search party was organized.
Ncube’s body was however, found at the 69km peg along the Gokwe-Kwekwe road. Sikhangisiwe was also found lying crying next to Ncube’s body.
A report was made at ZRP Kwekwe Rural, and scene was attended. Body was inspected and several deep cuts were observed on the back of the head, and bruises on the back and arms.
“Sharon Sikhanyisiwe said that they had been attacked. She had bruises all over the body.
“Police is keen to interview one Tawanda Moyo (22) of Sikwekwe Village, Chief Malisa Zhombe, in connection with the case.
“We appeal for help from members of the public to locate and arrest him and also Marshy for the Gweru murder,” Insp. Mahoko said.
He urged members of the public to desist from resorting to violence when resolving disputes to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
